Nausea is a common side effect of both IV sedation and taking medications orally, especially pain medications. The incidence of nausea is reduced by taking medications with food, or with a cup of warm water. If you still experience nausea in spite of all precautions taken, immediately stop taking all medications. Also, stop all food and liquids until nausea has resolved, then take the anti-nausea medication that you have been prescribed and continue nothing by mouth until this medication begins working. After nausea has completely subsided, you may resume food, liquids, and medications. If nausea persists for more than eight hours, contact Dr. Snell.
